Stockholm Fashion Week | Super models and super stylists
This week I am in Stockholm to see what is happening on the Swedish fashion scene. I was very excited to hear that the week is opened by no less than super stylist Bea Åkerlund.
Super stylist Bea Åkerlund
Bea Åkerlund is an internationally renowned stylist; she is working with numerous celebrities, but is most known for her work with Madonna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. She has been praised for her conceptual and spectacular aesthetics and extravagant style. Last year she styled Madonna’s much talked about performance at the Super Bowl, and earlier in January she was presented with the year’s honorary award at the Swedish ELLE gala. Dressed in black, a leather dress from BLKDNM, heels from Saint Laurent and spikes in her hair, she enters the stage to inaugurate the Stockholm Fashion Week. And it’s on. I watched show after show and here are my favorites from Day 1.
The Local Firm
Inspired by the optimism and freedom of the fall of the Berlin wall, The Local Firm presents their AW 13 collection. The keystones are black and grey, bomber jackets mixed with sequin tops, jeans and tailored jackets. Like a 90’s club kid lost on a military camp.
I was very curious to see what one of my favorite Swedish designers had to show this time. Designer of the year awarded by Swedish ELLE magazine earlier in January, my expectations were high. And she did not let me down.
Ann-Sofie is one of Sweden’s original bad boys when it comes to breaking the conventions of fashion. She has her very own unique way of finding her inspiration, in her pet-hates. Work wear and practical clothes are two of those and that is where she found her inspiration for her AW 13 collection. Ultra kitsch glamour combined with fleece jackets and practical workwear. She plays on the fine line between art and fashion and she does it very well.
The AW 13 collection is a homage to strong personalities and characters that have created their own reality. Not to follow, but to create your own path is the keyword for this season. Designer Elin Nystrom likes to be in the wrong content, to bring your own glamorous vision into your everyday world. Long silky dresses mixed with lace and printed silk tops. Colors as emerald green, black and bordeaux. Sophisticated and effortless.

Bea Åkerlund at the BACK show. Scary or stylish? Indeed very nice. Bea enjoyed the looks from Ann Sofie Back.

Construction worker or fashion model? The line between is thin. Ann-Sofie plays it well.
